The host institution

Aqaba University of Technology

A private university founded in 2015, which admitted its first students for the 2015/2016 academic year. It is described as the first private university in southern Jordan.

The campus sits roughly 15 km south of Aqaba city, on hills above the Gulf. AUT opened with two faculties — Administrative and Financial Sciences, and Information Technology — and has since added Engineering, Pharmacy, and Literature and Life Sciences, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The Faculty of Engineering is the institutional tie to this conference.

Reaching campus

Getting to the venue

The campus is outside the city, so plan a taxi rather than a walk. Distances below are the published figures; door-to-door transfer times will be confirmed once the organisers have measured them on conference-week traffic.

From the city centre

About 15 km south. A taxi is the practical option — agree the fare before you set off, as meters are often not used. In-town journeys run 2–5 JOD; this one is longer, so expect more.

From King Hussein International (AQJ)

The airport is about 10–11 km from the city centre, roughly 15 minutes by road; the campus is about 15 km south of that same centre. Take a single taxi and allow for the run across the city. The exact door-to-door transfer time is being confirmed with the university.

From the south-coast hotels

The Tala Bay resort area lies roughly 15 km south of the centre — about the same distance out as the campus and on the same side of the city — so delegates staying there should have a shorter run than those on the corniche.

Driving

Jordan drives on the right. Car hire is available at AQJ and in town. On-campus parking arrangements for delegates are to be confirmed.

On the map

The pin below is set on Aqaba, not on the campus gate — the precise campus coordinates and a printable arrival sheet will be published with the programme.

Conference shuttle

Whether a shuttle will run between the hotel districts and the campus, and on what timetable, has not been decided. If it does run, the times will appear here and in the booklet.

On site

The room allocation, the catering arrangement and the network provision are all being settled with the university. Rather than guess at them, this page lists what is still open. Each item is replaced with the confirmed detail as it lands.

Presenting remotely

Every session is streamed. Authors unable to travel may present remotely. The streaming platform, the joining instructions and the technical rehearsal window will be published with the programme.

Access

Accessibility

The organisers will publish a detailed access statement for the campus — step-free routes, lift access, accessible toilets, parking and assistance on arrival — once it has been surveyed with the university. Until then, please do not assume: ask.

Tell us what you need

Write to info@ieeesea.net with any access requirement — mobility, hearing, sight, dietary, or anything else that affects how you take part. The earlier it reaches the organising committee, the more can be arranged. Remote presentation is available to every author as an alternative.

Campus access statement

A room-by-room access description, with the routes between buildings and the arrival point for delegates who need assistance.

Where to stay

Accommodation

Aqaba splits into two broad options. Neither is on campus, so both mean a taxi to the venue. No hotel is named here until a rate is actually negotiated.

Option one

City centre and the corniche

Hotels along King Hussein Street and the seafront put you inside walking distance of the castle, the flagpole, the archaeological museum, the Ayla ruins, the old souq and the corniche restaurants — the castle-to-Ayla cluster all sits within one to two kilometres. Best if you want the city in the evenings and do not mind the longer run out to campus.

Option two

The south coast, around Tala Bay

Resort properties roughly 15 km south of the centre, next to the Marine Park and the best shore-diving entries, on the same side of the city as the campus. Best if you are diving, travelling with family, or want a shorter transfer to the venue. Quieter in the evenings, and you will need a taxi to reach the centre.

Delegate hotel rate

The organisers are negotiating a delegate rate with hotels in both districts. Named properties, rates and a booking code will be published here — nothing is agreed yet, so book independently only if you need to secure a room early.
